segment routing (5G) (SR)
Segment routing is an IP routing that forwards data packets in the network based on a path dynamically defined at the source node.
The headers of the data packets contain a list of segments and nodes with instructions on how to execute the subsequent network nodes. This routing framework is a key tool for implementing soft network slicing and works over Multi-Protocol Label Switching( MPLS) or IPv6. It enables network operators to dynamically adjust service-specific routing to avoid data congestion and overload by routing data packets over different paths based on service layer requirements and the current state of the network.
