public hotspot (PHS)

There are several concepts for car-to-x communication( C2X), i.e., communication between two or more vehicles. One of them is communication via public hotspots.

As far as car-to-X communication is concerned, this can take place between two and more motor vehicles as car-to-car communication( C2C). Another approach is communication with a special infrastructure, Car to Infrastructure Communication( C2I). Corresponding infrastructure components are Roadside Units (RCU), which are placed along traffic routes. Corresponding vehicle communication can be supported by hotspots installed in parking lots. These hotspots are called public hotspots (PHS). They allow the on- board unit( OBU) to communicate directly with the Internet.
