network critical physical infrastructure (NCPI)

The term network critical physical infrastructure (NCPI) refers to an integrated security architecture of the physical technology layer of data centers. This infrastructure consists of power supply, line distribution, enclosure, cabling and cooling.

Modern NCPI infrastructures are modular, they are scalable and include all components in the management. NCPIs are designed to provide efficient infrastructures with high availability at a lower investment. The aim is to use the available supply capacities more economically and thus reduce the total cost of ownership( TCO).

Since most costs in utility infrastructure are incurred in capital expenditures, power consumption, and maintenance, the flexible orientation of NCPI offers significant advantages in terms of economic efficiency. An integral part of such solutions is efficient management involving all components. For this purpose, Environmental Management Units( EMU) can be deployed in the racks to monitor all failure-critical parameters such as humidity, temperature distribution, processor performance and other parameters. Depending on the concept, these values could then be retrieved from an IP address, for example. This simplifies administration, identifies sources of error in good time and eliminates possible operating errors.
