Among the character-oriented control methods, there are those that work with international transmission codes, while others use manufacturer-specific ones. The character-oriented protocols include the medium speed versions used in Transdata, MSV1 and MSV2. There was also a Low Speed Version(LSV).
Medium Speed Version (MSV) was used to control Transdata terminals for dialog operation and for wand processing. The MSV protocol worked with EBCDIC and ASCII and was divided into several phases: The request phase, the phase in which the data transmission took place, and the completion phase.
