According to DIN44302, a transmission rule is understood to be the entirety of control procedures and operating rules according to which the data transmission takes place in a transmission section consisting of the control station, the data transmission device and the network. The transmission rule specifies the transmission code ( EBCDIC, 7-bit code), the transmission type( simplex, half- duplex, duplex), the transmission direction (primary, secondary), the transmission format (character-by-character, block-by-block), the connection setup (fixed, dialled), the connection initiation (disconnection) and the recovery procedure.
