integrated circuit card (Smartcard) (ICC)

A special terminology has become established for smart cards. According to the International Standards Organization( ISO), an Integrated Circuit Card( ICC) is a memory card with a chip, such as the chip card or smart card.

Integrated Circuit Cards can be contact-based, such as the memory card or the processor smart card, or can operate as a contactless smart card, such as the Close Coupling Integrated Chip Card( CICC) standardized by ISO 10536, the Proximity Integrated Circuit Card( PICC) standardized by ISO 14443, or the Vicinity Integrated Circuit Card( VICC) standardized by ISO 15693. The contactless chip cards differ in the distance that may be between the reader and the chip card.
