hotkey

A hotkey is a keyboard assignment or a key combination with which an action of a program is triggered at the press of a key. The hotkey function can also be regarded as a function key or shortcut key with which an assigned function or process is triggered without a menu call.

A hotkey therefore speeds up command and function execution.

Well-known hotkeys are the function keys of the keyboard, but also those for inserting and removing objects or the screenshot. Examples of hotkeys are "Ctrl+C" for copying or "Ctrl+V" for pasting objects. In various programs, the hotkeys can also be assigned user-specific functions.
