A gateway server is a computer that provides connected networks or devices with a communication service or communication link to other networks.
For example, a mainframe can act as a gateway server to provide connected personalcomputers(PCs) with centralized access to databases and other networks. This feature is used whenever expensive but relatively infrequently needed access to database or other networks is required.
