edge-emitting light emitting diode (backlight) (ELED)

Edge-LED is a backlighting ofLED displays. In this technology, the LEDs for the backlight are mounted in the frame of the display and illuminate the entire display via a mirror system.

Edge LED illumination is extremely uniform, but cannot be partially controlled. It is therefore not possible to backlight certain parts of the picture more or less. The advantage of Edge-LED is primarily the extremely flat and cost-effective design of the screens.

In addition to Edge-LED illumination, there is also Full-LED, also called Direct-LED. This technology differs from the Edge-LED technology in the distribution of the LEDs behind the screen. With this technology, the LEDs are evenly distributed over the screen surface and can be controlled locally, local dimming; which increases the dynamics of the image display.
