cross color

Cross-color is color interference in a color television image. They show up in the display of video signals by a moiré at color transitions. The cross-color effect makes the color transitions look frayed.

Cross-color effects occur when the finest image details with their frequency components come close to the color carrier. For example, when small patterns are shown in the television display. In this case, the brightness portion of the video is demodulated as color information. This is therefore a disturbing interaction between luminance and chrominance signals.

On the other hand, parts of the chrominance signal can also cross over into the luminance signal during demodulation. This is called cross luminance. The interfering cross color effects can be reduced by comb filters.
