cleaning tape
The magnetic heads of tape drives and video recorders are soiled by the abrasion of the magnetic tape.
Since all tape drives work with error correction, the soiling is not directly visible. Therefore, all tape drives should be cleaned regularly, but not too frequently, for a short period of a few seconds with a dry cleaning tape. Appropriate cleaning tapes are available for all tape versions and as cartridges.
A cleaning belt or cleaning cartridge consists of a coated polyester film whose surface is roughened and removes the smear film or dirt from the read/write heads and the guide rollers in an abrasive process.
