cell sector (COO) (CS)
The determination of a Cell of Origin(COO) is given by the Cell Identity( Cell-ID), whereas the positioning accuracy is determined by the radio cell size.
Macrocells can have a positioning accuracy of several kilometers, whereas microcells are a few hundred meters in size. Since radio cells in rural areas can be several tens of kilometers in size, the COO method has been modified in this respect and the radio cells divided into three sectors.
The Cell Sectors( CS) take over this subdivision. These are directional antennas that emit the radio signal in only one of three sectors, but at different frequencies. The mobile device can be assigned to the appropriate sector, which helps improve location accuracy. With the COO method using Cell Sector, at least the sector in which the mobile device is located is known. A further improvement in positioning accuracy is possible via field strength measurements, Received Signal Strength( RSS).
