biconic connector

The biconic connector is an FO connector that is suitable for multimode fibers and monomode fibers. This connector has its name because of its biconical pin guide.

The connector, which originated in the USA and has no significance in Europe, has a screw locking mechanism and was used in the USA primarily in the IBM cabling system, among other things as a connector for patch cords to connect fiber optic cables (type 5 IBM cabling system, IVS). There are versions for multimode and monomode fibers, which differ in color: the biconic connectors for monomode fibers are yellow, those for multimode black.
