The Active Platform is Microsoft's integration platform for Internet technologies and distributed applications. It is an open, standards-based software architecture for content offerings and business applications on the Internet.

The various platform components such as Active Client or Active Server with Active Server Pages( ASP) enable the creation of commercial web applications. The network and the personal computer( PC) are integrated transparently. The Active Client can access all local and remote information.

Active Platform is based on HypertextMarkup Language( HTML) for displaying static information, scripting languages for integrating components such as JScript, and Java or ActiveX based software components for animated display and audio.
