Standards and architectures for e-government applications

Standards and Architectures for E-Government Applications(SAGA) is a federally funded standardization approach for interoperability, platform independence and investment security of software systems. SAGA is an initiative of IT experts from business and administration from public authorities, industry and science and is intended to ensure smooth online communication in e-government and to safeguard the modern, service-oriented administration of the federal government. SAGA is also used by various federal states and municipal administrations in their IT systems.

SAGA's goals focus on defining technical standards and architectures, process and data modeling, and the development of software components. The definition of technical standards forms the basis for the interoperability and compatibility of software systems; process modeling is concerned with the description of e-government processes and sub-processes as well as the possible reusability of processes. And in data modeling, the focus is on standardizing data formats so that the data can be reused in future applications.

In the March 2008 version, the topics of Internet telephony, Service Oriented Architecture( SOA) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library( ITIL) are addressed and conceptually integrated.
