RealMedia variable bitrate (codec) (RMVB)

RealMediaVariable Bitrate (RMVB) is a container format developed by Real Networks.

RMVB is the file extension for multimedia files from RealMedia, but with variable bit rate( VBR), in contrast to streaming media, which works with constant bit rate( CBR). RMVB files(extension: *.rmvb) are mainly used for multimedia content that is stored locally.

The RMVB player is a simple player for videos. It can be downloaded as freeware free of charge and offers some additional functions like the insertion of subtitles or the forward and rewind of the videos. Since RMVB files can be created with different video codecs, problems can occur during playback.
