NetView

NetView is the Network Management Architecture(NMA) matching product for managing host-oriented SNA/ SAA environments. Installed on the host, it has a relatively complete knowledge of what is happening in the logical and physical network.

NetView belongs to the /370 system, Tivoli and Advanced Interactive Executive( AIX).

NetView is the basis of IBM products for network management. The basic component in NetView is the Command Facility. It evolved from the Network Communications Control Facility( NCCF). NCCF has been extended to work with other, new NetView components and to support new network products such as IBM 586X/38XX modems, 3710 network controllers, and Token Ring networks.

An important architectural feature is the ability to communicate with NetView via the APPC/ LU-6.2 interface. This high- level transaction-oriented interface can be implemented on virtually any device from the personal computer( PC) on up and allows easy affiliation of additional processes for management applications and third-party management interfaces such as Simple Network Management Protocol( SNMP) or Common Management Information Protocol( CMIP).
