Mitrix networks

The actual precursors of today's broadband networks are the Mitrix networks. The Mitre Corporation developed several Mitrix networks.

The first version of the Mitrix networks was created in 1970. The transmission medium was a coaxial cable and was based on broadband technology. The network had a tree topology and operated on two parallel coaxial cables.

Since in all Mitrix networks the signal can travel in only one direction, on one cable the data was sent from the transmitter towards the head-end station and on the other cable it was received by the receiver, with the root amplifying the signal at the same time. Since the signals in the individual branches could be amplified with the help of an amplifier, a network could be extended to several kilometers. Frequency modulation made it possible to form separately operating frequency channels. The CSMA/ CD accessmethod was also implemented as the access method.
