MaxiCode

The MaxiCode is a matrix code with a fixed size of 2.54 cm x 2.54 cm. Unlike other matrix codes, the MaxiCode consists of hexagonal and not square modules.

The hexagons are arranged in 33 lines. Each line contains 30 modules. In total, there are 884 hexagons with which a maximum of 93 ASCII characters or 138 digits can be represented. In the center of the MaxiCode field there are three concentric circles surrounded by 6 honeycomb elements. These markings, arranged at an angle of 60 °, serve to identify the position for the readers.

The MaxiCode has neither the information density nor the information content of other matrix codes and is mainly used for addressing purposes in the fields of transportation and logistics. Its information content consists of a primary and a secondary information. The primary message is usually the postal code, and the secondary is the address.
