Internet Inter-ORB Protocol (IIOP) is a protocol for object-related access over the Internet. The IIOP protocol is an open standard for communication between Object Request Brokers (ORB) over IP networks

. IIOP is used in the CORBA framework and defines how GIOP messages are transmitted over an IP network, or the Internet. It is supported by well-known Internet and browser companies and is an alternative to Microsoft's Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM).
