EuP Directive

The EuP Directive is entitled "Eco-Design Requirements for Energy Using Products" and aims at the more conscious use of energy throughout the entire life cycle of a product; from manufacture to disposal. The EuP Directive 2005/32/EC of the European Parliament, prepared by the European Union, is the complement to the directives dealing with disposal and recycling, the WEEE Directive, and the reduction of pollutants, the RoSH Directive. All three directives belong to the strategic concept of integrated product policy( IPP).

The EuP Directive, with the German name "Rahmenrichtlinie für die Festlegung von Anforderungen an die umweltgerechte Gestaltung von energiebetriebenen Produkten," or Eco-Design Directive, is aimed at long-term climate development and the European Climate Protection Program. The directive draws environmental concerns into the design and operation of electronic equipment and specifies the requirements that products must meet before they can be placed on the market. It addresses the more economical use of energy and resources and energy-efficient product development. It has a direct influence on the development of computers and displays, consumer electronics products, household appliances and lighting, to name just a few areas with an affinity to itwissen.info. Since the requirements affect all EU manufacturers equally, there is no distortion of competition.

The EuP Directive only affects products that are sold in the European Union in quantities of more than 200,000, that have an impact on the environment and for which an improvement in environmental compatibility is justifiable.

In addition to the product groups mentioned, these include heating systems, water heaters, motors, refrigerators and many more.
