De-Mail

De-Mail is a chargeable e-mail developed by Deutsche Telekom and Web.de on the initiative of the German Federal Government and is enshrined in the De-Mail Act. The area of validity for De-Mail is the Federal Republic of Germany.

De-Mails can be written and sent in the same way as normal e-mails, but the difference from conventional e-mails lies in the secure message transport. On the one hand, with De-Mail, the authentication of the communication partners is proven, and on the other hand, the sending, the dispatch through the e-mail network and the receipt by the De-Mail client can be proven. For further security, the contents are encrypted, which also allows confidential messages to be exchanged between the communication partners. As far as encryption is concerned, De-Mail messages are encrypted but opened and recoded once during transport. So it is not end-to-end encryption( E2EE), where only the recipient can decrypt the message.

De-Mails cannot communicate with email clients, which limits flexibility. In addition to increased security, De-Mails offer the advantage of preventing spam and phishing.
