tweening

The neologism tweening is derived from "in between", which means between.

In computer graphics, tweening is the calculation of individual intermediate images in an animation or in morphing. In this technique, one or more intermediate images are inserted between the source image and the final image, thus providing a continuous approximation of the final image.

Tweening is used to create a gradual transition between two frames to avoid the impression of a jumpy change.
