single line multi-service (SLMS)

Single Line Multi-Service (SLMS) is a network architecture for integrating different services

on an unbundled copper access line. This integrates the necessary functions of individual components such as voice gateway, digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM), edge router (ER), etc. in one device. An SLMS network enables the deployment of latest broadband access technologies over xDSL and fixed line and realizes the last mile

over a single line. SLMS is an infrastructure architecture for emerging packet-based public networks. It is configured via management systems and can provide the required quality of service for real-time transmissions and burst traffic. In addition, the SLMS network must separate the traffic flows of individual subscribers so that subscriber-specific services can be activated.
