programmable interrupt controller (chipset) (PIC)

The Programmable Interrupt Controller(PIC) is a programmable controller for the interrupts, which manages the interrupts for single processors.

If the personal computer has several processors or multi-core processors, the Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller( APIC), which supports more complex interrupt management, takes the place of the PIC controller. With the Programmable Interrupt Controller, certain values are fixed by the manufacturer. If the operating voltage of a PIC controller drops by a certain value, malfunctions may occur because proper functionality is no longer guaranteed. To prevent such a case from occurring, PIC controllers work with a Brown Out Detection( BOD).
