presentation timestamp (TV video) (PTS)

The Presentation Timestamp (PTS) is a timestamp inserted by the MPEG-2 codec into the packetized transport stream, the Packetized Elementary Stream( PES).

This PTS timestamp indicates the moment when the access unit is pulled from the receiver buffer and is used by the decoder for synchronization for playing back pictures and videos. Delays in decoding or display can be compensated to a certain extent.

The Presentation Timestamp and Decode Timestamp( DTS) inserted in the bitstream must not differ in their intervals by more than 700 ms.
