decode timestamp (DTS)

Decode Timestamp (DTS) is a data field in a Packetized Elementary Stream( PES) of MPEG-2. In this timestamp the time for decoding the picture is defined.

The Decode Time Stamp differs from the Presentation Timestamp( PTS) only if the Group of Pictures( GOP) image recording uses bidirectionalframes ( B-frame). If the Decode Time Stamp is used, then the Presentation Time Stamp must also be transmitted in the bitstream. The PTS and DTS time stamps inserted in the bit stream must not differ in their intervals by more than 700 ms.
