multivendor management platform

Standards are of eminent importance for network management, since many network components and network stations from a wide variety of manufacturers work together in a network. Management platforms with standardized interfaces and protocols form the basis of such a management system in a heterogeneous environment: Multivendor Management Platform.

These include the Common Management Information Protocol( CMIP) and the Common Management Information Service( CMIS) from the OSI environment, Simple Network Management Protocol( SNMP) and its further development SNMPv2 from the TCP environment, and CMIP over Logical Link Control( CMOL) as a CMIP variant for local area networks( LAN). In addition, Distributed Management Environment( DME) from OperationSystem Function( OSF) should be mentioned, which is intended to standardize network management.

An integration of different network management methods is offered by the OSI management framework, which supports the further development of existing OSI management standards. This framework of the OSI environment includes services and functions for the control of connections as well as for an integrated, holistic solution.
