mobile information device profile (Java) (MIDP)

The Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) is a Java 2 Micro Edition ( J2ME) profile for covering device-specific functions.

The MIDP profile enables different devices of the same category to work together. In mobile networks, these can be cell phones, smartphones and PDAs. The functional scope of MIDP includes security-relevant functions, HTTPS, a timer, sound, screen and keyboard. A screen resolution of 96 x 54 pixels (MIDP 2.0) is supported.

In the Java ME framework, the MIDP profile is on the middle layer. The MIDP profile is provided with the class library via the Connected Limited Device Configuration( CLDC), which is located on the lower layer with the Java Virtual Machine.
