connected limited device configuration (Java) (CLDC)

The Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) represents a class library and a virtual machine in the Java ME framework. Like the Connected Device Configuration( CDC), it covers the lower layer of the framework and includes a stripped-down Kilobyte Virtual Machine( KVM) for mobile devices such as cell phones and smartphones.

Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) is optimized for slow processors, low memory and small displays. The technology makes its class library available to overlying profiles such as the Mobile Information Device Profile( MIDP). The class library is used to cover Java functions of a device configuration with similar requirements. In the case of mobile networks, these can be cell phones or PDAs.

In addition to the MIDP profiles, the Java ME profiles supported by the CLDC also include Information Mobile Profile( IMP) and the IMP profile of the next generation, IMP-NG.
