message identifier (ATM, SMS) (MID)
- In ATM, the Message Identifier( MID) is used to identify associated ATM cells that contain segments of packets from higher layers.
- In DQDB, the Message Indentifier allows the identification of intermediate segments.
- In Cell Broadcast( CB) in SMS systems, Message Identifiers (MID) are transmitted in octets 3 and 4 to specify the type and source of information. These are used to describe the information channel.
