management information file (DMI) (MIF)

The Management Information File (MIF) is a file format that contains administrative information about the hardware and software components for network management.

MIF files are used by the Desktop Management Interface( DMI) and provide it with information about the system configurations. The MIF file provides network management with information about the configuration and managed network components such as bridges, routers, and switches. A MIF file consists of several function blocks in which the network components, the connection path, the attributes of the components and the instances are defined.

The Management Information Format is a system-independent format that is mainly used in Windows.
