geoblocking

Geo-blocking is a technique used to block websites in certain geographical areas. Users who are located in a certain geographical area cannot see corresponding websites and thus cannot download or stream.

Geo-blocking is used to block content from foreign countries. This can be done with firewalls and intrusion prevention systems( IPS) by filtering the IP address, for example using blacklists. Geo-blocking also provides a protection function for protected content. Companies can use it to limit the availability of their websites and web services to the desired geographical customer base or license area. It also forms a protection against unwanted downloads and piracy.

Geo-blocking is used by companies and especially by broadcasters who protect their licensed content from general use.
