finite elements method

The finite element method (FEM) is used to calculate the properties of objects and simulate physical models.

The finite element method is based on the fact that the surface of the complex object is decomposed into smallest polygonal elements, which can be better calculated individually. In this process, the structure of the object is divided into beam elements, shell elements and solid elements. The individual finite elements are connected to each other at the vertices and reproduce the two- or three-dimensional shape of the object.

This method can be used to determine properties of objects that have complex geometric structures. The method is used in CAD technology and allows, for example, the calculation of predetermined breaking points or of forces that occur during structural changes. For example, the load on fenders during a crash.
