fair queuing (FQ)

Fair Queuing (FQ) is a common technique to counter data congestion in transmission components such as gateways.

Fair queuing carries the attribute fair because it restricts each host to the same gateway bandwidth. Fair queuing makes no distinction between low and high performing hosts, nor does it distinguish between hosts with a lot of activity and those with little.

Fair queuing is one of several queuing techniques. In this technique, equal bandwidth values are made available to all applications. Unlike fair queuing, weighted fair queuing(WFQ) and class-based queuing( CBQ) prioritize.
