electronic logistics (eLogistics)

eLogistics is a technology that uses electronic processes and media to optimize and improve services in traditional logistics and transportation. It involves freight, storage and distribution services for goods and products using modern communication technologies and communication networks and the overarching exchange of data and files.

All persons and companies involved inthe logistics chain can be integrated into eLogistics. E-logistics begins with the location and tracking of packages, pallets or containers in warehouses or port facilities, which are recorded using WLAN location techniques or RFID, and extends to transport management and data warehousing. It makes use of modern networks such as the Internet, intranets or extranets, uses standardized exchange formats such as Electronic Data Interchange( EDI) and EDIFACT, HypertextMarkup Language( HTML) and Extensible Markup Language(XML) with the file formats Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) and Document Type Definition ( DTD) for data exchange between the companies involved, and works with fixed- line and mobile communications.
