The term media refers to voiced sounds, but is used in multimedia technology for audio and video. The distinction here is not clear-cut, since many multimedia documents also refer to texts, graphics, photos, and animations as media.
Media are also means for the representation and distribution of information. They can be transmission media for the transmission of information, such as radio waves in radio networks, pressure waves in acoustics, or transmission cables in wired transmission technology. They can also be carrier media on which the information is displayed, stored or archived. Such carrier and storage media are paper, foils, film material, magnetic tapes, diskettes as well as optical and other storage media.
