electric power management system (EPMS)

An electric power management system, Electric Power Management System (EPMS), provides detailed information about power generation and power distribution.

An EPMS system records relevant power generation data, consumption data, and peak loads and uses them to improve the efficiency of power-generating systems, gas turbines, water turbines, and steam turbines; to improve energy storage in battery banks and capacitor banks; and to optimize power distribution in substations.

Like other power systems, EPMS systems typically work with the SCADA system to acquire, store, and analyze data in real time. Controlling the power grid helps smooth the supply voltage and improve efficiency during peak consumption.
