e-business XML (ebXML)

E-BusinessXML (ebXML) is the XML version for electronic commerce. ebXML belongs to the web services and contains specifications for electronic business processes, the exchange of messages and registration services.

The specifications for ebXML were developed by the UN organization UN/Cefact and the OASIS consortium and form the basis for the Universal Business Language( UBL).

One of the key issues in the development of ebXML was its transnational use and the character sets associated with it. Others were aimed at security and use in e-commerce. For example, business transactions must be protected against access by unauthorized persons and must be verifiable at any time.

ebXML unifies business processes in business-to-business( B2B) and business-to-consumer( B2C) and is of particular interest to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
