distributed resilient routing (XRN) (DRR)

Distributed Resilient Routing (DRR) can be used to connect two fabric switches in XRN networks, which then behave like a router. Whereby the routing tasks are distributed to both switching fabrics by Distributed Resilient Routing.

The advantage of such a network design is higher flexibility and bandwidth management. In addition, resilience is provided because if one switch fails, the other takes over its tasks.

In contrast to other routing protocols such as the Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol( VRRP) or the Hot Standby Router Protocol( HSRP), Distributed Resilient Routing distributes the routing information more intelligently to the switches in the distributed fabric.
