digital versatile disc + rewritable (DVD+RW)
The DVD+ RW(Digital Versatile Disc + Rewritable) is a rewritable DVD. The development of the DVD+RW was aimed at achieving compatibility of the rewritable DVD+RW with existing DVD drives and DVD players. The DVD+RW matches the pressed DVD-ROMs, DVD-Audio and DVD-Video in all technical data except for slightly different reflection behavior.
Intended for PC applications, this DVD had a storage capacity of 3 GB in the 1st version, while in the 2nd version it corresponds to DVD-10 and with a storage capacity of 4.7 GB per side. It is said to tolerate up to 1,000 write and erase operations. The data is stored on the DVD+RW exclusively in the pregroove, a recess between the data tracks. The land remains unused. Addressing takes place via the wobble of the spiral.
The DVD-RW Alliance has specified an 8x speed standard for DVD-RW. DVD+RW can be written in DVD recorders with Constant Linear Velocity( CLV) and with Constant Angular Velocity( CAV). DVD+RW drives should be able to read various DVD formats such as DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW and all CD formats.
