connection admission control (ATM) (CAC)

Connection Admission Control(CAC) is the function in ATM thatchecks the request for a virtual connection for acceptability and determines the routing for that connection through the network.

With CAC admission control, an ATM switch can ensure the availability of resources throughout the transmission path. Connection Admission Control (CAC) can be used to check the required quality of service( QoS) of a connection request for its feasibility. If the required quality of service cannot be provided, the connection request is rejected.

Connection Admission Control (CAC) is functionally equivalent to Call Admission Control (CAC) in IP networks.
