cell interarrival variation (ATM) (CIV)

The Cell Interarrival Variation (CIV) measures how constant in time, i.e. how much jitter is present, the ATM cells arrive at the receiving end station.

The CIV time is determined by the source application and should have as little variation as possible. For constant bit rate( CBR) transmissions, the intervals between cells arriving at the receiving end should match those at the sending end. Fluctuations in CIV time directly affect voice and video transmissions.
