burst tolerance (ATM) (BT)

The burst tolerance(BT) is a characteristic value defined by the ATM Forum that supports the variable bit rate( VBR) in ATM. The BT characteristic value determines the maximum permissible number of ATM cells that can be transmitted in succession using the variable bit rate. The burst tolerance is also the limiting parameter for the Generic Cell Rate Algorithm( GCRA), which determines the traffic profile.
