broadcast multicast service (BCMCS)

Broadcast Multicast Service (BCMCS) is a multimedia service for mobile terminals that is being standardized by 3GPP2 as part of the worldwide development of CDMA2000. This technology is used to transmit mobile TV in broadcast or multicast to TV handsets.

In terms of service, BCMCS is a technology that can be used to transmit multimedia services in broadcast mode via mobile networks to mobile terminals. Transmission takes place via a point-to- multipoint connection. This means that in broadcasting, all subscribers connected to the BCMCS service receive the same information. In multicast, only the subscribers who have also ordered the service receive the information. An enhanced version of BCMCS is EBCMCS (Enhanced).
