application/communication (APPLI/COM)

APPLI/COM is a standardized communication interface for personal computers. This interface was specified by German manufacturers and determines the access of application software to communication networks.

APPLI/COM is located between the application software and the communications software and is used above the Common Application Programming Interface( CAPI). The APPL/COM interface thus enables application and communications programs to be linked and files can thus be transferred directly from the application, for example a word processor. The interface defines how application programs can be linked to communication facilities for fax, teletex and telex, so that texts and data can be sent and received directly from an application.
