SyncML Initiative

An alliance of well-known companies has formed under the name "SyncML Initiative", which is striving to standardize synchronization functions andprotocols. More than 600 companies already belong to the consortium, which has published "Sync 1.0", an XML-basedprotocol.

The SyncML protocol is intended to support data synchronization in mobile computing. Synchronization Markup Language (SyncML) is an open standard for the synchronization of address and appointment data. The aim is to create a data synchronization standard that enables data to be exchanged easily between different networks and devices such as servers, laptops, palmtops, PDAs and cell phones. The SyncML specification is intended to enable the synchronization of mobile data and information consistently across multiple network and device types, regardless of whether they are mobile or fixed networks and also regardless of the platform and manufacturer.
