Q-interface (TNM)

In the telecommunications control network( TMN), the Q interface is the standardized interface between the network management center and the network elements( NE).

Q2 is the interface between simple network elements and the management system. Q3 is the interface between switching equipment and the network management system. Q3 is standardized by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute( ETSI) and the International Telecommunication Union( ITU) in Recommendations Q.811, Q.812, Q.821, and Q.822, and is used in Synchronous Digital Hierarchy( SDH), among others. Q.811 deals with lower layer profiles, Q.812 with upper layer profiles and Q.822 with performance management.
