network management center (NMC)

The term Network Management Center(NMC) stands for a control room with central control facilities for public, private and mobile data and telecommunications networks.

As a central control facility, the network management center manages and monitors the complete network, the nodes with their connections, the traffic movements and subscriber connections. Depending on the functional focus, the terms network operations center( NOC) or network control center( NCC) are also used for the network management center.

The many tasks of a network management center include network configuration and parameterization of the network for the purpose of performance optimization, round-the- clock monitoring of the network and traffic, management of subscriber databases, maintenance, and billing management. Depending on the network configuration, the network management center controls the switching nodes or, in mobile networks, the radio network controllers( RNC) or the base stations( BS).
