LTE WLAN radio level integration with IPsec tunnel (LWIP)

The LWIP concept is about the use of Long Term Evolution(LTE) mobile communications in license-free frequency bands of WLANs.

LTE WLAN Radio Level Integration with IPsec Tunnel (LWIP) is a feature of 3GPP Release 13, for the optimal integration of WLANs into LTE access networks. Current usage is aimed at transmitting data efficiently using load balancing between LTE and WiFi with aggregation and the PDCP protocol.

LWIP is a similar concept to LTE-WLAN aggregation( LWA), both of which use license-free WLAN frequency bands. The difference is that LWA aggregation performs carrier aggregation, whereas LWIP performs aggregation or switching between LTE and WiFi.
